Northwest Food Processor's Association

This week we are attending the Northwest Food Manufacturing and Packaging Expo in Portland. This event is the largest regional food processing trade show in North America. It will attract nearly 4,000 food industry professionals from across the country.

The City of Nampa is participating with the Boise Valley Economic Partnership in exhibiting at the show. With our long history of agricultural production, food processing has grown to be a cornerstone of our economy. With companies like JR Simplot, Amalgamated Sugar, Sorrento Lactalis, XL Four Star Beef, and Great American Appetizer already in Nampa, we believe there is opportunity to attract additional processors to the area.

In addition, we think we could attract any number of companies that supply or purchase from these firms. During the recent economic downtown, food processing has been one of the few stable and expanding segments of our economy.

Solar Power International Show

This week we are meeting with companies and consultants in the renewable energy field at the Solar Power International show in Anaheim. Nearly 25,000 attendees from all over the world are here to exhibit and learn about new developments in the industry.

Nampa's history of high-tech manufacturing makes our area a great location for companies in this field. In addition to our low business costs and high quality of life, recent layoffs throughout the valley have given us a ready supply of talented technology workers and some excellent manufacturing buildings that could be quickly converted to renewable energy manufacturing.

Many experts believe we are in the very first years of a renewable energy transformation that will shape our economy for the next century. We continue to believe this is one of the best opportunities to bring new jobs and investment to our community and we will continue to aggressively market Nampa to this fast growing industry.
